ART WORK

Photography: Passionate about photography, I am particularly interested in skyscapes and figurative portraits.  At present I work with AIRHED as a camerawoman taking ariel footage from up to 400ft.  I like to use a range of cameras from Polaroid and LOMO’s to film SLRs and the digital Cannon 5D.  I have enjoyed using the dark room and now edit my work digitally with Adobe Illustrator.  Bill Brandt and Robert Capa, Cindy Sherman, Diane Arbus and David Hockney are amongst my favourite photographers.  During my degree I was able to exhibit my photographs within the university.

Textiles and Craft: I have begun to learn how to use a spindle and have been spinning wool, plastic bags and paper to produce yarn.  I helped a recent year7 textiles class to make, from recycled materials their own spindle.  They produced their own yarn.  I enjoy sewing both hand and machine and overlock, using a variety of materials from paper to fabric.  I can use and adjust clothing patterns.  I have begun to crochet regularly and can knit..  Recent explorations into felt making and fabric dying have been fascinating.  Origami, quilling, paper making and scrap booking, silk painting are all crafts I am confident in.  And of course more recently I have learnt to loom band.

Lost Wax Casting/Sculpture: Lost wax-casting, a process I learnt as an apprentice to the sculptor Rick Wienecke.  I helped to create a life size bronze sculpture of the biblical figure Mannaseh.  The figure is installed at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem.  My experience of the whole process from sculpting and mould making to gating and casting was wonderful and unique.  2 years ago I built with cobb a clay oven in which we cook.  Most recently I have acquired a potters wheel.  I hope to soon be firing my own work.

Films and Film Making:  Film and documentary film are a passion of mine.  My degree specialism was in Time-Based Media; film, photography and performance art.  Within my degree I was able to screen my work and perform to live audiences.  I have made a promotional film with the students.  I very much enjoyed teaching Media Studies at ‘A’ level before taking on maternity leave.  I also dabble in animation using my iPhone to make odd pieces.  Using apps like Picle and Stop Motion.  I have taught lessons using Stickman to create simple animations with Year 8.
